Barcelona firefighters put out a fire at the Wikihousing building on Carrer de Blasco de Garay, 65, in Poble-sec on Tuesday afternoon. Municipal sources said no one was injured.
A large column of smoke could be seen from higher terraces nearby, according to images shared by a local resident. Several fire service units and the Guàrdia Urbana attended the scene and brought the situation under control quickly.
The building is part of the Wikihousing project in Barcelona. For more local coverage, see our community and sport pages.
This fire comes after a run of recent incidents in Barcelona buildings and businesses. On 21 May, a flat fire in Raval badly affected three homes and forced residents out. On 12 May, a butane cylinder explosion caused a fire in a Poblenou residential building, leaving 11 people injured and several families displaced.
Earlier in April, four separate fires were reported within 10 days. On 22 April, a 92-year-old man died in a flat fire on Gran Via. Other incidents included a gas leak in Carmel on 17 April, a fire in Passatge de Sant Bernat in Raval on 13 April, and a rooftop fire at Hotel Pulitzer on Carrer de Bergara on 12 April.
