Around 50 people gathered in Barcelona's Pla de la Seu on Saturday, 25 April, at 12:00, demanding an end to the war in the Middle East. The protest, organised by the platform Aturar la Guerra (Stop the War), also denounced the conflict in Iran.

Núria Suárez, the organisation's spokesperson in Catalonia, warned against complacency regarding news of truces. She stated, "Social pressure is fundamental because peace cannot be entrusted to leaders like Donald Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu."

Protesters read a manifesto in Catalan, Spanish, English, Arabic, and Ukrainian. This document rejected bombings by the United States and Israel against Iran. It called these actions "a violation of international legality."

Protesters Demand Ceasefire

The platform condemned the Iranian regime but maintained that the Iranian people must decide their future. They argued against military interventions, stating these "pose a danger to world peace."

Attendees displayed a banner reading "Cal aturar la guerra a l'Orient Mitjà" (We must stop the war in the Middle East). They also sang protest songs and listened to a Palestinian poem.

Local Context and Wider Action

This Barcelona demonstration was one of 180 similar events held as part of a wider day of action. The Pla de la Seu, located in the Gothic Quarter, frequently hosts public gatherings and demonstrations. It sits directly in front of Barcelona Cathedral, a significant city landmark.

The protest highlights ongoing public concern in Barcelona about international conflicts. It shows a continued call for diplomatic solutions and civilian protection from local activist groups.
