Many locals utilised the holiday period and favourable weather to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site. The new system has received positive feedback from users, who praise its convenience, speed, and clarity. Ariadna, a city resident, described the online process as “very easy and quick” after completing the registration. She added, “It is something you have next to your home. Sometimes you never come due to laziness. It is very practical.”

The Green Pass seeks to foster a better balance between the large number of tourists and city residents visiting the park. Easter traditionally sees intense tourist pressure, making Park Güell one of the most sensitive areas for increased visitor volume. The exclusive entry for Barcelona residents aims to ensure they can enjoy the space without the usual crowds.

Streamlined Access for Locals

The new system requires residents to verify their registration in the city. They use their DNI and an email address via the official Park Güell website. This streamlined process helps to avoid queues. It also prevents the “trickery” of some tourists attempting to gain unauthorised entry. Ester, another resident, shared her positive experience. She stated, “I saw the Green Pass, I did it this morning, and there was no problem.” Ester visited with her family after discovering the Gaudir Més option was no longer available. She believes the Green Pass is an excellent option for Barcelona residents. She concluded, “It should also be like this for visiting other spaces such as the Sagrada Família.”

Easter Delights and Gaudí in Chocolate

Additionally, visitors to Park Güell during Easter could enjoy a unique exhibition. The Hypostyle Room featured “Gaudí in Chocolate,” displaying 10 chocolate Easter eggs. These creations were inspired by Gaudí’s distinctive universe. Ten master pastry chefs crafted the eggs. They recreated the park’s forms, colours, and symbolism. This exhibition celebrated the traditional Catalan Easter cake, known as the Mona de Pasqua. The Mona de Pasqua is a sweet tradition where godparents give elaborate cakes to their godchildren.

The successful implementation of the Green Pass highlights the City Council’s ongoing efforts to integrate residents more fully into the city’s cultural and architectural heritage. Officials will likely monitor its long-term impact on visitor flow and resident satisfaction. This initiative represents a significant step in managing urban tourism for the benefit of local communities.
