The Barcelona Restaurant Guild has broken what it calls “the false consensus” surrounding the remodelling project, warning that the human element that gives Las Ramblas its unique character could be lost forever.

The guild is now pressing Mayor Jaume Collboni’s administration to clarify whether it will implement the “drastic” 2018 proposal to significantly reduce outdoor seating. Consequently, restaurateurs have been seeking specific details about municipal plans for two years, arguing their recovery from construction-related losses depends on this information.

These businesses face terrace permit denials while others maintain outdoor seating despite the 2016 Special Rambla Organisation Plan prohibition.
