The Barcelona Restaurant Guild has elected a woman to lead the organisation for the first time in its long history. Núria Solà, co-owner of the century-old Bodega Sepúlveda, will assume the presidency for the next four years, marking a symbolic and generational shift in one of the city’s most influential hospitality associations.

Solà’s candidacy was the only one submitted and was therefore proclaimed unanimously. At 50, she takes the reins from veteran restaurateur Isidre Gironès, of Ca l’Isidre, who becomes honorary president. Her appointment forms part of a broader renewal process within the guild, which expanded its executive board this year to 35 members, making it the most diverse and representative in its history.
Speaking after the announcement, Solà pledged to ‘lead with the same humility and sense of service with which we open the doors of our restaurant every day’. She also underscored her commitment to uniting the sector following a turbulent 2024, in which disagreements over strategy and representation had weakened cohesion.
Bodega Sepúlveda, located in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood, is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Solà family. Originally a bulk wine tavern, it evolved into a landmark for Catalan cuisine, renowned for its seasonal produce and extensive wine list.
The guild hopes Solà’s leadership will bring stability and renewed energy as Barcelona’s restaurant sector continues to grapple with high operating costs, staff shortages and the challenges of adapting to post-pandemic dining habits.
