Rodalies R1 and R4 train services experienced significant disruptions on Sunday, 17 May, due to an infrastructure incident in Barcelona. The problem occurred between Arc de Triomf and Clot stations, forcing trains to divert their routes, Rodalies reported on X.
Trains on the R1 line, heading towards L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, now divert via Passeig de Gràcia. These services do not stop at Plaça Catalunya and Arc de Triomf stations in Barcelona. This affects thousands of daily commuters who rely on these central transport hubs.
R4 Line Service Changes
Additionally, R4 line trains travelling towards Sant Vicenç de Calders also operate on diverted routes. These services bypass several key Barcelona stations: Torre Baró, Fabra i Puig, La Sagrera, Arc de Triomf, and Plaça Catalunya. These stations serve densely populated areas and connect to other public transport options, making the disruptions particularly impactful for residents.
For R4 services between Vilafranca and Manresa, trains now start and end their journeys at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. This change requires passengers to adjust their travel plans significantly. Furthermore, Rodalies has established a shuttle train service operating between Terrassa and Fabra i Puig to help mitigate the impact on passengers in that corridor.
Impact on Barcelona Commuters
The affected stations, including Plaça Catalunya and Arc de Triomf, are major interchange points for Barcelona's public transport network. They connect Rodalies lines with the Barcelona Metro and other regional train services. Disruptions here can cause widespread delays and inconvenience for residents, tourists, and expats navigating the city. Passengers should check the Rodalies website or official social media channels for the latest updates on service changes and expected recovery times.
