STEAM education programme launches at Park Güell this week, kicking off an ambitious initiative that will bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to more than 8,000 students.
The programme, organised by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), represents one of the city’s largest educational outreach efforts.
More than 500 students from 12 schools across Barcelona and its metropolitan area participated in the inaugural session on Wednesday.

The event featured hands-on workshops and experimental activities focused on architecture and technology, drawing inspiration from Antoni Gaudí’s legacy. Furthermore, the timing coincides with two significant anniversaries: the centenary of Park Güell as a public space and 100 years since Gaudí’s death.
Expanding STEAM Education Across Barcelona
The programme will continue expanding across Barcelona’s key locations throughout the coming months. Consequently, students from 200 primary schools, secondary schools and sixth forms will benefit from the initiative. The next session is scheduled for March 4th at Parc del Fòrum, where science and technology workshops will target fourth-year secondary and first-year sixth form students.
Barcelona Zoo will host two consecutive days of biology-focused activities on March 17th and 18th for first and second-year secondary students. Meanwhile, the Anella Olímpica will take over on March 24th with workshops exploring science through five different lenses: brain, matter, energy, art and technology. This comprehensive approach demonstrates Barcelona’s commitment to educational innovation and community engagement.
University volunteers from UPC have played a crucial role in supporting the practical workshops. Additionally, the programme’s design emphasizes interactive learning through playful and participatory activities. This STEAM education programme represents a significant investment in developing future scientific talent and technological skills among Barcelona’s youth.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance educational opportunities throughout Catalonia.
