Barcelona City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to hosting the Rotary International World Convention in June 2027. This major global event expects to draw 20,000 participants and generate an estimated €68 million for the local economy.
Mayor Jaume Collboni met Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo at the Ajuntament on Monday. They discussed the convention's organisation.
Mayor Collboni stated, "We are very pleased that Barcelona has been chosen to host the 2027 Rotary Club World Convention. This shows our city is a leader in holding international meetings, especially in cooperation."
He added, "This event must leave an important legacy in the city, as happened in 2002 when the convention also took place in Barcelona."
Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo commented, "The Rotary International Convention is a unique opportunity to bring together people from around the world committed to service, dialogue, and mutual understanding."
Barcelona's Role in Global Congresses
Arezzo also explained, "We highly value the close collaboration with the city of Barcelona and our local partners as preparations continue for the 2027 Rotary International Convention. We look forward to welcoming our global community to a city known for its openness, culture, and international outlook."
The convention will run from 26 to 30 June 2027. Organisers expect 20,000 attendees to visit Barcelona.
This event positions Barcelona as a leader in organising large congresses with social and humanitarian purposes. It highlights the city's top-tier infrastructure for such gatherings.
Economic and Cultural Impact
According to Rotary International, the convention will have a direct impact on the local economy. The estimated economic boost for Barcelona is €68 million.
This influx of visitors will also have cultural and service components. The event aims to foster global understanding and community service.
Preparing for the 2027 Convention
Arezzo's visit allowed him to see the city's top-tier infrastructure first-hand. This included facilities like Fira de Barcelona.
Fira de Barcelona and the Barcelona Convention Bureau, part of Turisme de Barcelona, are working with the organising committees. They are handling the logistics for this international meeting.
This collaboration ensures Barcelona's readiness for this significant international gathering. It reinforces the city's reputation as a prime destination for global events.
