Barcelona crackdown on antisocial behaviour has intensified with a major multi-agency inspection targeting 14 establishments in the Mediterranean Gardens area.
The coordinated operation last Thursday night resulted in two premises being sealed and 95 separate infractions identified across various regulatory areas.
The Barcelona City Council organised the large-scale inspection in response to numerous complaints from local residents about persistent antisocial behaviour.

Furthermore, the issue had been formally discussed during the council’s Presidency commission, highlighting growing concerns about the area’s deterioration.
Coordinated Barcelona Crackdown Yields Significant Results
Multiple enforcement agencies participated in the operation, including Urban Guard, Mossos d’Esquadra, National Police, Barcelona Public Health Agency, Labour Inspection, Tax Agency and the Sants-Montjuïc district council. Consequently, this collaborative approach enabled comprehensive scrutiny of all aspects of business compliance.
The inspection team documented 95 separate violations across various categories. Additionally, they identified seven infractions related to activity licences, 28 concerning waste management, and 12 public health violations. The Public Health Agency subsequently sealed two establishments due to poor hygiene conditions that posed immediate risks to public safety.
This enforcement action follows 18 months of preparatory work by the district council, which established a multidisciplinary task force to address the area’s problems. Meanwhile, residents in Sants-Montjuïc have been increasingly vocal about antisocial behaviour affecting their quality of life.
The ‘multi-inspection’ approach forms part of the council’s broader ‘Pla Endreça’ strategy, which focuses on proactive, intensive and exemplary inspections through inter-administrative collaboration. Therefore, this coordinated method aims to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of municipal inspection efforts across Barcelona.
