Barcelona City Council has announced simplified free access to Park Güell for all registered city residents. This initiative coincides with the 2026 centenary of the park’s public opening. From tomorrow, residents can obtain a free entry ticket directly through the official Park Güell website.

This new system streamlines the process for Barcelona residents to enter the monument’s regulated zone. Previously, residents used the municipal Gaudir Més programme for discounts and cultural activities. The council now guarantees the same access options via municipal registration, eliminating additional steps.

Laia Bonet, First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Gràcia, emphasised the city’s commitment. She stated, “We want residents to feel Park Güell is theirs again.” Bonet highlighted the government’s dedication to improving coexistence. This commitment has been evident between visitors and residents since the start of its term.
Bonet further explained the comprehensive approach. She recalled, “We have removed direct ticket sales at the box office, we have committed to reducing capacity by 500,000 people in two years, we have improved mobility management in the area, and we have also quadrupled the return of Park income to the neighbourhood.” These measures aim to protect local communities.
Streamlining Resident Entry
Registered residents can secure a “green pass” through the new model. They provide their name and DNI on the Park Güell website. This automatically verifies their municipal registration. Residents can select their preferred time slot for entry.
This change also means Park Güell will no longer feature in the Gaudir Més catalogue. The council seeks to ensure genuine resident use and prevent misuse by third parties. This applies particularly to exclusive resident time slots.
Residents can continue to access the “Good Morning” and “Good Evening” slots. These are between 7:00 and 9:30, and between 18:30 and 22:00. No tickets are sold to visitors during these periods.
Park Güell’s Centenary and Community Focus
The Ajuntament de Barcelona purchased Park Güell in 1921. It opened to the public in 1926. The 2026 centenary marks a century of public access to this iconic site in the Gràcia district. The council aims to balance tourism with local quality of life.
Park Güell is designated an Espai de Gran Afluència (EGA) by the City Council. This classification allows for specific measures to protect local residential and commercial areas. It also helps reduce negative impacts from mass tourism.
Additionally, the municipal government has already implemented several initiatives in the area. These reorganise mobility and park usage. The goal remains to enhance the quality of life for residents living near the park.
Enhanced Access for Adjacent Neighbourhoods
The council has begun renewing free access cards for residents and schools in adjacent neighbourhoods. This runs parallel to the city-wide access simplification. These include Salut, Vallcarca-Penitents, el Coll, Can Baró, el Baix Guinardó, and el Carmel.
Residents registered in these specific neighbourhoods will receive a new card. This card grants free access throughout the park’s entire opening hours, from 7:00 to 22:00. They can also use three exclusive resident access points: Forat del Vent, Can Xirot, and Casa Trias.
A second phase will involve renewing cards for students and families from several local schools. These schools are Baldiri i Reixac, Montseny, Turó del Cargol, Reina Elisenda Virolai, Jesuïtes Gràcia-Col·legi Kostka, and Cor de Maria. These renewed school cards will become valid from the 2026-2027 academic year.
Through these ongoing measures, the Ajuntament de Barcelona, via municipal company BSM, continues to improve the park experience for regular citizen users. The council also ensures harmonious coexistence among residents, schools, and visitors.
