Officers from the Guàrdia Urbana have arrested a minor in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella district. This arrest follows a violent Barcelona smash-and-grab robbery at a local business. The suspect was apprehended shortly after smashing a shop window with a stone to steal a computer.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 4 February, in the Raval neighbourhood. Police patrols were already circulating in the area when they received a report regarding a robbery in progress.

According to police sources, the young suspect approached a retail establishment armed with a stone. He threw the object against the display window, shattering the glass. Subsequently, he entered the premises to snatch a laptop before fleeing the scene with the device.
Witness Assistance Proves Crucial in Robbery Case
The swift resolution of the case was largely due to witness intervention. A bystander observed the crime unfolding and immediately contacted the authorities. This person provided a detailed description of the thief, the stolen item, and his escape direction.
Using this information, Guàrdia Urbana officers patrolling nearby located a young male matching the description. He was found carrying a laptop, which officers suspected was the stolen property from the Barcelona smash-and-grab robbery.
CCTV Footage Confirms Smash-and-Grab Identity
Police contacted the shop owner to verify the theft. After reviewing the establishment’s security camera footage, officers definitively confirmed the detained minor was the individual who had broken the window and taken the computer.
The laptop was returned to its owner. Meanwhile, the minor was arrested on charges of robbery with force. The police have not released further personal details regarding the detainee. However, recent Barcelona crime statistics show one in four residents affected by similar incidents.
