Barcelona speed cameras generated nearly 100 million euros in revenue during 2024 after issuing a record-breaking 935,565 traffic fines throughout the city.
According to official data from Barcelona City Council, this represents an increase of more than 35,000 penalties compared to the previous year, positioning Barcelona among Spain’s most active cities for traffic enforcement.
Barcelona Speed Cameras Dominate Enforcement Efforts
The city’s 67 fixed speed cameras captured 239,000 speeding violations alone, accounting for more than one-fifth of all traffic fines issued.

Furthermore, speeding offences emerged as the most common violation detected by the surveillance system. This enforcement intensity reflects the city’s broader commitment to road safety, as demonstrated by Barcelona’s ambitious target to halve motorcycle fatalities within five years.
One particular camera on Avinguda Meridiana proved exceptionally productive, issuing 30,567 speeding tickets in 2024. Located at number 563, this enforcement device sits at a crucial entry point to Barcelona, monitoring vehicles approaching from the AP-7, C-58, and C-33 roads. Consequently, drivers transitioning from higher-speed motorways to urban limits frequently fail to adjust their speed sufficiently.
The strategic placement near the junction with Passeig Santa Coloma and access to various ring roads contributes to its effectiveness. Additionally, the camera’s partial concealment among dense foliage means many motorists only become aware of its presence after passing the enforcement zone.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s second-most active speed camera captured 26,872 violations at kilometre point 14.343 on the B-20 Ronda de Dalt in the Llobregat direction. This consistent enforcement across major arteries underscores the city’s comprehensive approach to traffic management and road safety improvement.
