Barcelona weather has taken a dramatic turn this week as temperatures plummet to their lowest October levels, with some neighbourhoods recording near-freezing conditions.

The sudden cold snap follows intense tramuntana winds that brought gusts reaching 100km/h, introducing a surface-level polar air mass that has caused temperatures to drop by up to 10°C.

Barcelona Weather Reaches Unseasonable Lows

Since Sunday, thermometers have remained stubbornly below 20°C across the city. Furthermore, several Barcelona districts have experienced temperatures hovering around 13°C, marking the coldest readings this October. The meteorological situation results from the position of storm Benjamin in northern countries and a powerful Atlantic anticyclone.

Meteorologists predict this Barcelona weather pattern will persist until Tuesday, with temperatures potentially registering between two and six degrees below seasonal averages. Consequently, Monday will see continued temperature drops failing to surpass 20°C. The chill will be particularly noticeable in higher areas of Barcelona, Collserola, and the Besòs river zone.

According to recent weather emergency reports, the region has experienced significant meteorological disruptions. Meanwhile, the E15M plan to transform Besòs area neighbourhoods continues despite these challenging conditions.

The weather situation will continue along similar lines during Tuesday: the day will begin with radiant, cloudless skies, though Barcelona could register its lowest minimum temperatures since May. From midday onward, clouds will appear covering the atmosphere, particularly in the southern territory.

Additionally, wind will begin blowing with intensity from the interior of the Peninsula toward southeastern Catalonia, heralding a radical shift in climate conditions. By Wednesday, a storm located west of Portugal will transport humid air masses toward Catalunya.

Dense clouds will cover the entire autonomous community and trigger precipitation beginning overnight in the southern territory, extending northward during the day. From mid-afternoon, showers will concentrate along the central coast and interior regions. Therefore, residents should keep umbrellas handy, though accumulations will be scarce.

Temperatures will capture a slight uptick more notable in Girona, where they’ll situate above average. Rain will continue along the coast during Thursday morning but gradually lose strength throughout the day until disappearing. By afternoon, sun and fine weather will return to Catalunya.

Mercury levels will continue rising until Friday, with maximums potentially exceeding 24°C in the pre-coastal areas. The weekend forecast remains uncertain, but meteorologists anticipate a tranquil Castanyada celebration without precipitation in sight. This Barcelona weather pattern serves as a reminder that autumn has firmly arrived in the Catalan capital.
