Provisional data confirms a historic surge, with TMB’s metro and bus network recording 66.9 million validations in October alone-a 3% increase over the previous year’s record.

Bus validations exceeded 21.2 million (+2.7%), while the metro reached 45.8 million (+3.2%), demonstrating a broad increase in reliance on the city’s sustainable transport options.

Sant Jordi and Weekend Travel Drive Peak Demand

Sant Jordi 2025 set a new all-time high for validations on a working day, with the metro recording 1.88 million validations on April 23rd.

Across the entire TMB network, 2.61 million validations were recorded that day, according to the Barcelona City Council. Weekends also saw unprecedented demand, with November 22nd becoming the busiest Saturday in TMB history, recording 1.76 million combined validations. However, this trend of increasing weekend use has been consistent throughout the year.

Metro and Bus Services Each Achieve New Milestones

Individually, both services celebrated new peaks. The metro recorded its highest-ever Saturday passenger numbers (1.35 million) on November 22nd. However, the bus network set its Saturday record on May 31st with 454,008 validations, while its Sunday/public holiday record was broken during La Mercè festival with 356,142 validations. However, the overall public holiday record for the network remains Sant Jordi 2023, which fell on a Sunday and saw 1.5 million total validations. Meanwhile, the public holiday with the highest metro validations in 2025 was All Saints’ Day (1 November), with 1.09 million. Between January and June 2025, TMB recorded 356.35 million validations, a 1.2% increase year-on-year. These figures illustrate the sustained growth and effectiveness of Barcelona public transport, a trend likely to continue with ongoing network improvements.
