Barcelona transport fares are set to increase by an average of 3.5% in 2026, according to proposals from the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM).

The planned rise, which will vary by zone and ticket type, comes alongside the confirmed continuation of key 50% discounts for regular users.

Barcelona Transport Fares: Discounts To Stay Despite Increase

The ATM’s Administrative Council, comprising the Generalitat, Barcelona City Council, and the Metropolitan Area, is expected to approve the 2026 fare structure this Friday.

Consequently, all current 50% bonuses will remain in place. This follows Monday’s announcement of continued state subsidies and Tuesday morning’s agreement between the PSC and Comunes parties.

The current fares, active since January 2025, maintain pandemic-era discounts designed to ease access to public transport. Furthermore, the Spanish government has confirmed it will maintain its share of these discounts next year. The 50% reduction will continue on the most popular tickets: the T-usual, T-Jove (including versions for single-parent and large families), and the T-70/90.

These exceptional measures, in place since 2022, will cost public coffers approximately €250 million in 2026. The ATM administrations will shoulder €117 million of this, with the Generalitat covering 51% and local entities 49%. Territory Councillor Sílvia Paneque noted this remains a temporary measure that will eventually be withdrawn.

Zone-Based Increases And New State Ticket

Due to this public expenditure, Paneque confirmed that discounted ATM titles will rise by an average of 3.5% in 2026. This increase exceeds the forecasted CPI growth. However, the rise will not be uniform. Users in zones 1 and 2, closer to Barcelona, will see a slightly higher increase. Meanwhile, travellers from more distant zones—who already pay more—will face a proportionally smaller hike.

This breaks from the uniform price updates applied in previous years. Officials from Territori suggest this new system aims for a more proportional distribution of economic impact based on ticket prices. The ATM has released the full price table it expects to approve. The T-Usual will cost €22.8 monthly in zone 1 (an 80-cent increase) and €42.7 from zone 3 upwards (a €1.10 rise). The T-Jove will be priced at €45.5 quarterly (up €1.5).

The other classic Barcelona card, the 10-journey T-Casual, will rise 45 cents to €13 in the New Year. The most notable increase will be for the single ticket, popular with tourists. Its price will update by 25 cents to €2.90. In parallel, 2026 will see the launch of the new state-wide single ticket announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Priced at €60 (€30 for under-26s), it will allow travel on Rodalies, medium-distance trains, and state buses in Catalonia. However, it will not include Barcelona’s metro or urban and interurban buses.

This fare adjustment occurs as Barcelona continues its major long-term infrastructure projects, which aim to modernise the network. The city’s transport system remains a critical component of daily life and its broader economic framework.
