Barcelona weather is set for a significant shift as high pressure weakens and maritime air brings increased humidity and potential showers to the region.

According to Ara Cat’s latest forecast, the anticyclone that has dominated will gradually retreat towards central Europe in the coming days.

Consequently, this movement will usher in more maritime winds laden with moisture across Catalonia.

Barcelona Weather Shift Brings Weekend Showers

A low-pressure system named Emilia, situated between the western peninsula and the Canary Islands, will indirectly accentuate this maritime flow along the Mediterranean coast. Therefore, clouds will become abundant across many areas this Friday, with some light drizzle possible in coastal stretches. Meanwhile, the Pyrenees will continue to enjoy bright sunshine, creating a stark regional contrast.

Temperatures will begin to normalise for the season. Maximums are expected to be more typical, with many values moving between 11°C and 16°C, resulting in a noticeably fresher daytime feel. Minimum temperatures have already risen along the coast and pre-coastal areas due to cloud cover. However, inland valleys, particularly in the Pyrenees, woke to sharp frosts, with lows of -6°C recorded in Das (Cerdanya).

Both Saturday and Sunday will see very high humidity, with low clouds and fog prevalent in many regions, especially along the littoral and pre-littoral zones. Furthermore, the sun will continue to shine fully in the Pyrenees, offering the most pleasant and usable weather of the weekend. Some light drizzle may repeat along the Catalan coast and the Balearic Islands, but precipitation is expected to increase more significantly in the Valencian Country, particularly from Sunday onward.

This maritime flux, driven by a pocket of colder air positioned further south, will fully affect the southeastern peninsula. Current weather models indicate this maritime instability could move into Catalonia at the start of next week, bringing rain to many regions and snow to the southern face of the Pyrenees. This situation remains uncertain and will require confirmation in subsequent forecasts. Thermometers are entering a prolonged phase of seasonal normality.

Residents should prepare for a changeable period. The shift follows other notable weather events in the region, such as the severe windstorm that battered Catalonia in October. The Barcelona weather pattern is clearly entering a more dynamic phase as winter establishes itself.
