Barcelona Zoo‘s popular holiday camp has completely sold out its 62 places for children aged five to 15, marking 40 years as a cherished fixture in the city’s school holiday calendar. The camp, which runs until 2 April, offers participants direct interaction with animals and outdoor educational activities.

This long-standing programme focuses on fostering respect for nature and the environment. Glòria Espuña, Head of the Education Area at Barcelona Zoo, stated, “What we want is for them to feel co-responsible for caring for biodiversity.” She also believes children can become agents of change. A key attraction is the opportunity for children to feed animals and observe them closely.

Participants particularly enjoy seeing the red pandas. Children can watch keepers weigh and feed these animals from just a few centimetres away. Sam Ramon, a repeat participant, described this experience as “unforgettable.” The camp’s success stems from its blend of outdoor engagement and hands-on learning, making it a highly sought-after option for families in Barcelona.

Engaging Young Minds with Nature

Young attendees show clear enthusiasm. They listen intently to explanations and eagerly participate in all proposed activities. The camp aims to provide a memorable and educational experience, connecting children with the natural world in a unique urban setting. This initiative aligns with the Zoo’s broader mission to promote conservation awareness among the public.

Future Programmes and Registration

With the current spring camp concluding on 2 April, Barcelona Zoo is already preparing its summer workshops and holiday camps. These programmes will launch after the school year finishes. The Zoo has now made information regarding the summer offerings available for consultation. Registration for these upcoming camps will open on 27 April, according to the Zoo.
