Barcelona Christmas activities are taking centre stage this festive season with an impressive programme of 90 special events across the city’s museums and heritage spaces.
The extensive cultural offering includes creative workshops, winter camps, themed itineraries, artisan markets, concerts and family-friendly activities running from late November through early January.

According to El Periódico Barcelona, many of these activities are completely free, making cultural engagement accessible to all residents and visitors during the holiday period.
Barcelona Christmas Activities Span Multiple Cultural Venues
The Disseny Hub Barcelona will host the ‘Disseny Market Barcelona’ from December 12-14, a Christmas fair promoted by FAD featuring local artisans. Furthermore, the DHub offers guided visits to the Casa Bloc Apartment-Museum on Saturdays at 11am and family activity ‘Design in Your Pocket’ on Sundays at 11:30am, excluding December 28. Meanwhile, Fabra i Coats welcomes the traditional ‘Festivalet’ gathering national and international designers and artisans on December 13-14.
The Photographic Archive of Barcelona proposes workshops for children aged 5-12. On December 22 and 30, activities will teach portrait creation using lighting resources. Additionally, photographic itineraries with instant cameras will run on November 23 and 29. Montjuïc Castle presents ‘A Christmas with Views,’ allowing children to discover the fortress history while building their own tower models.
Family-Friendly Museum Programmes Dominate Festive Calendar
The Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA) organises ‘City Archaeonauts,’ workshops combining science, history and heritage for children aged 6-12 at the Born and Plaça del Rei sites. Similarly, the Ethnological and World Cultures Museum offers two family activities: ‘EMAKIMONO,’ inspired by Japan’s Ainu culture on December 27, and ‘Baskets, Spindles and Ploughs’ focusing on traditional Catalan crafts on December 28.
The CCCB proposes a participatory space linked to the ‘Rodoreda, a Forest’ exhibition from December 5, where visitors create floral collages. Consequently, it will also screen children’s short films by Abbas Kiarostami. The Music Museum revives its traditional Christmas instrument-building workshop for children aged 6-12, while the Maritime Museum presents ‘Patapumers in Action!’ from December 22-31, teaching nautical vocabulary, knot-tying and pirate discovery.
The Natural Science Museum of Barcelona presents extensive programming including scientific table games (December 20-January 3), ‘Flipbooks: Animated Christmas Nature’ (December 21-January 4) and workshops creating fantastic creatures inspired by ‘Invisible Animals’ (December 23-20). The Chocolate Museum offers adult workshops making chocolate turrón with gianduja and family sessions creating chocolate figures from December 20 through January 5.
Historic Venues Join Barcelona’s Cultural Christmas Celebration
Pedralbes Monastery programmes four special proposals: Christmas ceramics and decoration workshops (November 29 and December 14), a Baroque music concert (December 17) and a medieval orchard visit with lavender soap workshop (December 20). The Picasso Museum provides a family engraving workshop inspired by the artist’s techniques (January 3) and the ‘Weaving Networks’ itinerary available until December 27.
The Joan Miró Foundation organises a winter camp on December 22-23, plus the performance action ‘Eclipsi’ on December 23 and several sessions exploring Miró’s creative process between December 28 and January 4. The Arús Public Library opens its doors with guided visits on December 22 and 27, organised by Cases Singulars, which also offers Christmas routes through buildings like the COAC, Ateneu Barcelonès and Palau Baró de Quadras.
Visitors should note that all Barcelona Christmas activities venues close on December 25 and January 1, with some facilities modifying hours on December 24, 26, 31 and January 5-6. Therefore, checking specific schedules on official websites before visiting is strongly recommended to ensure the best possible cultural experience during this festive period.
