Barcelona’s city council has been nominated for a prestigious international award. The Golden Moon Awards 2025 recognises the city’s Night Office and the work of Night Commissioner Carmen Zapata during her first year.

The nomination comes from the International Nightlife Association. Barcelona’s up for Best Collaborative Project in Nighttime Safety worldwide. It’s the award’s 10th edition, with the ceremony taking place in Valencia on 19 November.
According to FECASARM (the Catalan Federation of Restaurant and Music Activities), the Night Office represents a decisive step towards a new way of governing nightlife. Moreover, it’s the first and only position of its kind in Spain.
So what’s Zapata achieved? FECASARM highlights her work towards allowing new nightclub licences in the city. That’s been blocked for years. She’s also created safe nighttime routes.
Meanwhile, she’s pushed to expand the Nitbus night bus network. This includes increased frequencies and new lines. Additionally, working groups on culture, heritage, economic development, and nightlife have been launched.
Barcelona isn’t new to these awards. In 2023, the council and the Generalitat won in the same category. That was for the safety project developed in the Barceloneta waterfront area.
But there’s more Barcelona news from the awards. Eleven city nightclubs are nominated for The World’s 100 Best Clubs 2025. The list includes Bling Bling, Carpe Diem Lounge Club, Gatsby, and Input High Fidelity Dance Club.
Also nominated are Les Enfants Brillants, Opium Barcelona, Pacha Barcelona, Razzmatazz, Sala Apolo, Shôko Barcelona, and Sutton Barcelona. Shôko’s also up for Best Action in Customer and Worker Protection (alongside its Madrid venue).
Catalunya leads Spain with 23 nightclubs nominated for the global top 100 list. That’s quite a showing for the region.
