According to eldiario.es, the investigation began after a complaint from the CGT union.
TMB Data Breach Investigation Details
Initial evidence appears to support the claims. So, workers discovered that nearly all of the company’s 9,000 employees could access and download thousands of confidential documents and data simply by entering an employee’s name on the company intranet.
The exposed information also reportedly included sensitive data from the human resources and legal departments. It also exposed files from the Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia, reports to the company’s ethics channel, board meeting minutes, prosecutorial files, labour lawsuits, emails.Psychosocial risk reports.
Company Response and Potential Penalties
In response to these accusations, the public transport operator has stated it will analyse the documentation carefully and present its arguments. TMB insists it has made significant strides in data protection over the past year. However, TMB CEO Xavier Flores acknowledged the potential financial penalty could be substantial. Indeed, according to eldiario.es, the fine could reach up to €15 million.
Alleged Infractions According to eldiario.es, the Catalan authority has identified five serious and one very serious infraction related to the TMB data breach. For example, the company allegedly failed to report any security breaches when they first occurred in the spring of 2024.
Nevertheless, TMB maintains that after an incident in January, APDCat sent correspondence acknowledging that measures were taken to resolve the situation. The TMB data breach investigation continues.
