The C-31 motorway between Castelldefels and Gavà will close overnight from Thursday to Friday, 23rd to 24th April. This temporary closure allows for the safe dismantling of an old pedestrian bridge.

Overnight Closure Details

The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition announced the closure, citing safety reasons. Workers will remove the old metallic bridge, which measures approximately 32 metres and weighs nearly 13 tonnes. Two large-capacity cranes will operate on both carriageways of the autovía to complete the task.

Traffic Diversions in Place

Motorists travelling towards Barcelona will divert from the C-31 at Calle 18. They will then follow Paseo de la Tramuntana before rejoining the C-31 past the work site via Calle de Llevant. Meanwhile, traffic heading towards Sitges will exit the C-31 at Camino de La Pava. Drivers will continue to the B-210, a roundabout, Calle de Isaac Peral, Calle de Galileu, Plaza de Ànecs, and Avenida del Canal Olímpic before rejoining the C-31, according to C-31 highway Wikipedia article. These diversions ensure minimal disruption during the critical overnight work.

New Pedestrian Bridge Investment

The dismantling marks the completion of a new concrete pedestrian bridge over the C-31 in the La Pava area. The Generalitat invested approximately 600,000 euros in this project. This significant investment aims to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and safety for pedestrians in an area with high daily mobility. The C-31 is a vital coastal motorway connecting Barcelona to towns like Castelldefels and Sitges, serving thousands of commuters and residents daily.

Improved Local Connectivity

The new bridge will significantly improve pedestrian routes, ensuring safer passage for local residents. This infrastructure upgrade reflects ongoing efforts to modernise transport links and urban accessibility across the Barcelona metropolitan area. It also highlights the Generalitat's commitment to improving infrastructure for active travel.
