National Geographic and Oasis Immersive Studios collaborated on this exhibition. Following successful runs in Montreal and Mexico City, it now makes its European debut in the Catalan capital. The unique exhibition spaces of CaixaForum Barcelona, a cultural centre housed within the former Casaramona textile factory, host the show. This iconic Modernist building, designed by celebrated architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, provides a historic backdrop for a technologically advanced exploration of nature.
A Fusion of Art, Science, and Technology
At its core, ‘We Are Nature’ aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the planet’s ecosystems. Moving beyond traditional nature documentaries, the experience uses large-scale projections and interactive elements to place visitors directly within diverse habitats. Official programme details state the show aims to provide a contemporary perspective on the complex connections linking all forms of life.
The exhibition blends art and science, illuminating the concept of biodiversity – the vast variety of life on Earth, from the smallest bacteria to the largest whales. It underscores the fragility of these systems and highlights the urgent need for environmental stewardship. This message resonates with wider municipal efforts, such as the city’s acclaimed ‘green axes’ project, which reintroduces nature into the urban fabric.
A Cultural Landmark on Montjuïc
CaixaForum’s selection as the venue anchors the exhibition within Barcelona’s premier cultural district on Montjuïc hill. As a protected site of cultural interest, the centre is a stone’s throw from other major institutions, including the National Museum of Catalan Art (MNAC). MNAC recently unveiled its own ambitious expansion plans. A major international show like ‘We Are Nature’ further cements the area’s reputation as a hub for art and innovation.
The exhibition’s immersive format reflects a growing trend in Barcelona’s cultural offerings. City institutions increasingly use technology to create dynamic visitor experiences, from Casa Batlló’s digital art projections to other tech-driven artistic installations. ‘We Are Nature’ distinguishes itself by channelling technology towards a powerful environmental message.
A Call for Reflection
Ultimately, the exhibition is more than a visual spectacle; it also calls for reflection and action. It encourages attendees to consider their role within the global ecosystem and their shared responsibility to protect it. Environmental consciousness is a recurring topic in the region. Upcoming events, like Meteocat Days 2026, will focus on the intersection of climate and public health.
By transforming scientific data and natural phenomena into a compelling artistic experience, ‘We Are Nature’ aims to connect with audiences emotionally. It inspires a renewed sense of wonder and urgency for planet preservation.
‘We Are Nature’ runs from 17 September 2025 to 6 April 2026 at CaixaForum Barcelona, located at Av. de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, 6-8.
