The Calçot App has launched to help enthusiasts of Catalan gastronomy find the perfect onion feast. This new digital guide, available for iOS and Android, simplifies the search for authentic calçotada experiences. Therefore, it represents a significant step in digitising one of Catalonia’s most cherished culinary traditions.
Developed specifically to centralise information about this emblematic tradition, the free application provides a comprehensive platform. Consequently, users can easily locate restaurants, producers, and suppliers associated with calçots.

A Digital Solution for a Traditional Feast
Gerard Cañellas Prades and Arnau Pérez de Tudela Guasch founded this project. These entrepreneurs identified a clear market gap. Meanwhile, the immense popularity of the calçotada lacked a single digital resource for organising one.
According to the creators, the initiative emerged from recurring practical questions they faced every winter.
“The project is born from a real need. Every season we received the same questions: ‘Where do we go to have calçots?’, ‘Where can we buy them?’, ‘Are they from Valls?’. And we thought: ‘Why not create a tool that brings it all together?’”Gerard Cañellas Prades and Arnau Pérez de Tudela Guasch
Interactive Mapping and Local Produce
The core feature of the Calçot App is an interactive map. This map connects users with the entire calçot ecosystem. The development process relied heavily on data collection and validation for accuracy. In addition, users can now easily locate:
- Restaurants serving traditional calçotades.
- Certified producers with the IGP Calçot de Valls designation.
- Specialist sauce brands and cooked calçot suppliers.
- Bakeries and other establishments linked to the tradition.
At launch, the Calçot App has already registered over 500 establishments. This number continues to rise as new restaurants and farmers join the platform.
Culture and Community
Beyond its utility as a directory, the Calçot App serves as a cultural hub. The platform includes a digital editorial section titled La Redolta. This section publishes news, reports, and features exploring calçot history and culture.
The creators encourage restaurateurs, producers, and sector agents to register via their website. Their aim is to establish the app as a permanent reference point for the tradition. The Calçot App is available to download now at no cost to the user.
