Significant traffic delays are being reported across the region this Friday as a massive Catalan farmers protest gets underway. Nine separate columns of agricultural vehicles are currently converging on Barcelona, causing widespread disruption to the road network.
Converging on the capital
Organised by local farmers and livestock breeders, the slow-moving convoys set off from various distinct points across Catalonia early in the morning. Their shared destination is the Ministry of Agriculture in Barcelona.

According to reports, the sheer volume of tractors occupying main arterial roads has effectively paralysed mobility in several areas. Meanwhile, the columns make their steady progress toward the city.
Planned 24-hour stoppage
The demonstration is not expected to be a brief affair. Once the various columns unite in Barcelona, the protesters intend to carry out a 24-hour stoppage outside the departmental headquarters. Therefore, commuters and residents are advised to expect continued disruption throughout the day as the heavy machinery moves through the region.
