The Department of Language Policy of the Generalitat has opened the application period for Catalan film subsidies. Announced on Monday, this initiative funds the dubbing and subtitling of feature films in Catalan. Consequently, it seeks to broaden the linguistic options available to cinema audiences across the region.
Funding for film distributors
The grant scheme specifically targets film distribution companies. According to the official statement, the application window opens this Thursday. Meanwhile, the final deadline is set for 29 October.

The primary objective of this financial aid is to increase the number of new feature films premiering in the Catalan language. Therefore, the funding covers both full audio dubbing and Catalan subtitles for original version screenings.
Building on previous success
The Generalitat continues to invest significantly in linguistic accessibility within the arts. Data from the 2025 cycle highlights the programme’s reach. During that period, the administration subsidised the localisation of 85 titles.
The breakdown of the previous year’s funding includes:
- 39 titles released as fully dubbed versions in Catalan.
- 38 titles released in their original language with Catalan subtitles.
- 8 titles released with both dubbed and subtitled options available.
Distributors interested in participating in the current cycle should submit their proposals before the October deadline. This ensures eligibility for the 2026 fiscal year. In addition, the Generalitat works to promote the language following a recent agreement to strengthen Catalan in legislative documents.
