The Catalan firefighters 2025 report details a significant rise in operational demand. According to the Bombers de la Generalitat’s annual data, crews responded to 62,639 incidents in 2025. This figure marks a sharp nine per cent increase from the previous year. Consequently, the report paints a detailed picture of a service stretched by urban rescues, fires, and intense weather events.

While the total number of incidents remains slightly below the 2023 peak, the year-on-year increase from 57,436 call-outs in 2024 underscores a clear trend. This trend was exemplified by a recent high-volume emergency response by Catalonia’s firefighters over the New Year period. Therefore, the data suggests a complex operational landscape where traditional firefighting is increasingly augmented by civil assistance duties.

Catalan Firefighters 2025 Report: Dissecting the Data

A granular look at the call logs reveals a significant shift. For the first time, rescues (‘salvaments’) were the single largest category, with 18,060 dispatches. These were followed by 14,920 urban fires, 13,173 technical assistance calls, and 10,498 mobility-related incidents. Meanwhile, the persistent wildfire threat resulted in 3,782 vegetation fires. The context for many incidents is provided by Catalonia’s exceptionally warm weather in 2025, which likely contributed to dangerous conditions.

The geographical distribution clearly maps onto population centres. The metropolitan arc of Barcelona was the epicentre of activity. Specifically, the Vallès Occidental region logged 8,534 services. The neighbouring comarques of Baix Llobregat and Barcelonès followed, with 5,988 and 5,728 interventions respectively. Thus, a significant portion of the workload was concentrated within this dense urban sprawl.

Catalan Firefighters 2025 Report on Peak Events and Pressures

The annual statistics are punctuated by days of extreme operational pressure. For instance, the night of the Verbena de Sant Joan on 23 June generated the year’s highest volume, with 1,209 dispatches. However, other peaks highlight growing infrastructure and climate challenges. A widespread power blackout on 28 April triggered 623 calls for lift rescues and other incidents.

Furthermore, on 23 October, powerful winds led to 1,036 interventions for fallen trees and damaged buildings. The report also serves as a sombre record of the human cost. It notes two major vegetation fires in Torrefeta i Florejacs in July which resulted in two fatalities. Similarly, urban incidents contributed, as seen in a recent fatal residential fire in Barcelona. This data, released in an official Generalitat statement, provides a stark account of mounting pressures.
