Nine in ten Catalan residents want healthcare staff to provide service in both Catalan and Spanish. This finding comes from the Generalitat’s 2025 Òmnibus survey. The study involved 2,451 people aged over 16. It reveals strong public support for bilingual healthcare access across the region.

Healthcare Language Preferences
Meanwhile, the survey shows 73.7% believe they can use their preferred language during medical visits. However, 24.2% report this isn’t possible. Furthermore, the research indicates similar preferences extend beyond healthcare settings.
Additionally, in the Val d’Aran region, residents want service in Aranese too. Consequently, the findings highlight diverse linguistic needs across different areas. The margin of error stands at +/-1.98% for the comprehensive study.
Commercial and Restaurant Settings
Moreover, 88% of Catalans agree shops should offer trilingual service. Therefore, commercial establishments face similar public expectations. Meanwhile, 71.8% claim they can always use their preferred language in shops.
Nevertheless, 26.4% report difficulties in commercial contexts. Similarly, bars and restaurants show 69.9% satisfaction with language access. Conversely, 28.2% experience language barriers in hospitality venues.
Language Learning and Proficiency
Furthermore, 89% support guaranteed Catalan language access for newcomers. This reflects strong commitment to linguistic integration. Additionally, the survey measures self-reported Catalan proficiency levels.
Consequently, 36.1% claim they speak Catalan perfectly. Meanwhile, 26.9% report speaking it quite well. These figures demonstrate significant Catalan language adoption across the community.
Social Perception Findings
However, the survey also covers social justice perceptions. Only 19% believe courts treat genders equally in harassment cases. Meanwhile, 32% think women receive fairer treatment from justice systems.
Additionally, 73% support initiatives promoting affective-sexual education. This includes 43% who strongly endorse such programmes. Therefore, public opinion clearly favours comprehensive relationship education.
The survey results show strong public backing for multilingual services in Catalan healthcare. They also indicate widespread support for language learning opportunities. These findings will likely influence future language policy decisions across public services.
