Catalonia’s hotels achieved record numbers this August, welcoming more guests than in any previous year, according to data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE).

A total of 2.72 million visitors stayed in Catalan hotels, an increase of almost 3% compared with August 2024. Despite this, the number of overnight stays fell slightly by 0.96% to 8.8 million, showing that although more tourists are arriving, they are staying for fewer nights.
Between January and August 2025, Catalonia received 15.7 million hotel guests, marking historic highs in all months except March. Barcelona accounted for more than half of all visitors, with 1.42 million in August alone, up more than 6% year-on-year. Girona, Lleida and Tarragona also saw increases, although Tarragona experienced a small decline.
Price rises were modest compared with the rest of Spain. Hotel rates in Catalonia increased by 1.5%, well below the national average of 5.8% and far behind Madrid, where prices rose by more than 12%. The average daily rate in Catalonia stood at €146.28 per room, with a revenue per available room of €124.42 – slightly under the Spanish average.
Catalonia remains one of the country’s most popular destinations, taking 14.2% of all overnight stays by Spanish residents and 20.6% of those by international visitors. Only Andalusia and the Balearic Islands attracted higher shares in their respective categories.
