The Catalan startup Metascan, a specialist in advanced 3D scanning technology, has successfully closed two significant international agreements in Singapore. This announcement was made this Sunday by the Department of Business and Labour of the Generalitat. Consequently, this marks a pivotal step in the company’s global expansion.
These agreements involve a pilot project with the major aeronautical manufacturer Safran Group. Additionally, they include a research collaboration with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore’s lead public sector R&D agency.

Catalan Startup Metascan Optimises Aerospace Logistics
Under the pilot project with Safran Group, Metascan will deploy its proprietary technology. This technology aims to optimise packaging processes within the manufacturer’s value chain. The startup’s software allows for the automated scanning of aircraft components. Therefore, it generates precise digital files.
These files are specifically designed to interface with foam-cutting machinery used for protective packaging. By automating this process, the collaboration aims to enhance efficiency and precision. This improvement will benefit the handling of sensitive aeronautical parts.
Catalan Startup Metascan Advances Digital Research
The second agreement establishes a partnership with A*STAR. This partnership focuses on high-level research into digital avatars. This collaboration will utilise the Gaussian Splatting technique. This method renders 3D scenes in real-time based on high-quality scans from Metascan’s hardware.
Dirk Hornung, co-founder of Metascan, described the finalisation of these agreements as “very good news” for the company. He noted that these partnerships allow the firm to demonstrate the versatility of its scanners. Moreover, they validate their potential for both industrial application and advanced scientific research. This kind of growth is also being seen at the business incubator in Barcelona’s 22@ district.
