Storm Claudia is sweeping Saharan dust and unseasonal warmth across Catalonia this week, creating unusual weather patterns for November.

According to meteorological reports, temperatures have climbed significantly, reaching 23-25°C in some areas—well above seasonal averages.

Furthermore, frost has disappeared from most areas except some Pyrenean valleys.

Storm Claudia Weather Impacts Continue

Thursday will see temperatures rise even further, generally sitting four to five degrees above normal for mid-November. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 19-24°C across most regions, potentially hitting 25°C in western areas. Meanwhile, calm conditions prevail but changes are approaching.

Low clouds will increase along the coast and pre-coastal areas, creating more variable skies. These clouds will also appear during morning hours in southern and western zones, accompanied by morning fog. However, rainfall remains unlikely except for isolated droplets in northern Empordà and around Els Ports.

High, thin cloud bands will continue crossing the territory while southerly winds strengthen, blowing vigorously at high elevations—particularly in the Pyrenees. The Meteocat has consequently activated wind alerts for this area in coming days.

This unusual weather pattern follows recent extreme weather events that have tested Barcelona’s emergency response systems. The city’s adaptation to changing climate patterns remains an ongoing challenge for authorities.

Storm Claudia will send an Atlantic front toward Catalonia on Friday. Although arriving somewhat weakened, it will still be sufficient to reactivate instability. Showers may affect practically any region, particularly northern and western counties.

Rain may begin in the morning across the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida, with showers spreading from west to east from midday onward. Southerly winds will strengthen further while temperatures begin dropping inland and in the Pyrenees—though they’ll remain high along the coast and parts of the pre-coastal area.

Saturday will bring noticeable temperature drops everywhere, creating an impulsive day with variable skies and minimal rain risk. However, between Saturday night and Sunday, another front will reactivate precipitation across the region.
