Gender violence reports in Catalonia have reached 14,455 cases between January and October 2025, according to the latest police data.

The Mossos d’Esquadra predict the year will conclude with approximately 17,160 complaints, representing a slight decrease of 0.2% compared to 2024.

Gender Violence Statistics Reveal Complex Picture

Police have arrested or investigated 12,359 men in connection with these cases, including 138 minors.

Furthermore, officers have provided support to 13,536 victims during this period. Consequently, 12,917 adult women and 619 minors have received assistance from specialised services.

Tragically, eight women have lost their lives to gender-based violence this year. This includes five victims of intimate partner violence and three from family-related gender violence. The figure represents a significant decrease from the 19 femicides recorded during the same period last year.

Protection Measures and Risk Assessment

The Catalan police have requested 9,229 protection orders, accounting for 63.8% of all registered complaints. Additionally, 132 electronic monitoring devices remain active for perpetrators of gender violence as of November 20th. Meanwhile, 153 women currently receive police protection due to assessed risk levels.

According to recent security reports, law enforcement agencies continue to prioritise public safety across multiple fronts. The comprehensive approach to gender violence includes both preventive measures and responsive interventions.

Domestic abuse complaints represent the largest category at 5,360 cases, comprising 37% of total reports. Threats against victims or their family members account for 20.2% with 2,925 registered incidents. Moreover, breach of court orders has resulted in 2,458 complaints, while habitual physical or psychological violence within families has generated 1,048 cases.

Certain offence categories show concerning increases compared to 2024. Privacy violations involving personal data disclosure have risen from 161 to 195 cases. Similarly, non-violent sexual assaults have increased from 187 to 216 incidents, predominantly affecting women aged 36-45.

The Mossos d’Esquadra analysis also indicates rises in other areas. Child support payment defaults have increased from 267 to 296 cases, reflecting broader social challenges. These gender violence statistics highlight the ongoing need for comprehensive prevention strategies and victim support services throughout Catalonia.
