Catalan President Salvador Illa started an institutional trip to California, USA, on Wednesday. He aims to attract global investment and strengthen strategic alliances in technology and research for Catalonia.

"We want Catalonia to open to the world so the world comes to invest in Catalonia," Illa stated upon his arrival. He emphasised the trip's goal to reinforce relations and adapt them to current challenges. The President seeks to present an "open, collaborative, and not confrontational" Catalonia.

Illa is joined by Jaume Duch, Minister for EU and Foreign Action, and Núria Montserrat, Minister for Research and Universities. This visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of a collaboration agreement between the Catalan and Californian governments. This agreement promotes economic and business cooperation.

Strengthening Strategic Alliances

The President's agenda includes signing an agreement with the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre. Another agreement focuses on water resources. He will also meet with various Californian authorities.

Additionally, Illa has important meetings scheduled with companies. These firms operate in the audiovisual and technology sectors. The institutional trip aims to renew alliances and strengthen ties in these strategic areas.

Silicon Valley Focus

Illa's first day focuses on Silicon Valley. Here, he will meet with technology companies. He will also visit research centres at universities like Berkeley and Stanford. The trip continues until Saturday.

Attracting international investment and fostering technological partnerships is critical for Catalonia's economic growth. These efforts can create jobs and boost innovation for residents.
