Emergency services across Catalonia responded to 457 separate Catalonia storm alerts on Monday. Consequently, crews from the Bombers de la Generalitat managed hundreds of calls between 06:00 and 22:00. These calls ranged from fallen trees to potential flooding risks. The weather system, known as Storm Harry in Catalonia, prompted severe warnings for rain and high waves.
Despite the high volume of calls, officials described the overall atmosphere as “very calm” compared to previous severe weather events. Most incidents involved routine safety checks or minor structural issues. However, one significant property collapse in the Maresme area required immediate evacuation. Detailed figures were released by Europa Press following statements from the fire service.

Regions Most Affected by Catalonia Storm Alerts
The storm impact was unevenly distributed. The metropolitan area surrounding Barcelona saw the highest concentration of activity. The Northern Metropolitan Emergency Region recorded 127 incidents. This accounted for more than a quarter of the day’s total workload. The conditions triggered a Barcelona emergency plan alert, leading to specific coastal restrictions.
Other areas also saw significant activity throughout the day. For example, the Lleida Emergency Region registered 98 alerts. Meanwhile, crews in the Tarragona Emergency Region responded to 70 calls. The Southern Emergency Region handled 63 incidents. The remaining calls were scattered across other territories as the weather system traversed Catalonia.
Wall Collapse in Arenys de Mar
The most notable incident occurred in the coastal town of Arenys de Mar, Barcelona. At approximately 15:00, a retaining wall on a private property gave way. This caused significant structural concern for nearby residents.
The collapse affected a 15-metre section of the road situated directly below the property. Therefore, emergency services ordered the preventive evacuation of three neighbouring houses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the structural failure.
Emergency Response to Catalonia Storm Alerts
Beyond the structural damage in Arenys de Mar, the majority of the Catalonia storm alerts involved standard weather-related hazards. Fire crews spent much of the day removing fallen trees. These trees had blocked roads or threatened power lines.
Teams also conducted numerous inspections of flood-prone zones to monitor water levels. In addition, authorities maintained a watchful presence in these areas to ensure public safety. This level of activity reflects broader trends highlighted in the recent Catalan firefighters 2025 report, which showed a notable rise in interventions.
