Commuters in Catalonia face significant disruption as a nationwide train drivers’ strike begins at 00:00 on Monday. The Generalitat’s Department of Business has established minimum service requirements to mitigate the impact. This Catalonia train strike minimum services plan aims to maintain essential mobility.
Rodalies and Regional Lines Affected
The industrial action will affect Rodalies (commuter) and regional train services operated by Renfe. Therefore, the Catalan government has mandated that services must operate between 33% and 66% of their usual frequency, depending on the time of day.

Catalonia Train Strike Minimum Services Schedule
The highest level of service is protected during the morning and evening rush hours to accommodate workers and students. The breakdown of guaranteed services is as follows:
- Peak Hours (66% Service): From 06:00 to 09:30 and from 17:00 to 20:30.
- Off-Peak Hours (33% Service): All other times of the day.
Consequently, travellers are encouraged to check specific schedules for their lines via official Renfe and Rodalies channels before heading to the station.
Unions Demand Safety Improvements
The strike has been convened by a coalition of trade unions, including Semaf, CGT, SF-Intersindical, Alferro, CC.OO., UGT, and the general committee of Renfe Group companies.
The primary motivation behind the protest is a demand for greater safety measures and improved service quality. In addition, unions cite recent rail accidents in Adamuz (Córdoba) and Gelida (Barcelona) as key indicators. They argue that current safety standards are insufficient.
