Catalunya will incorporate 551 administrative staff from Spain’s General State Administration to strengthen essential public services, according to an announcement from the Government Delegation in Barcelona. The appointments were formalised through a resolution published in Wednesday’s Official State Bulletin, which listed 5,400 positions nationwide. Officials described the allocation as addressing critical staffing needs in underserved autonomous communities.

Regional Distribution

The new administrators will be distributed across Catalunya’s four provinces, with 373 positions allocated to Barcelona. Additionally, Girona will receive 77 staff members while Tarragona gains 59. Lleida province will incorporate 42 new administrative workers. These appointments follow recent demands for increased public investment in Catalan services.

Their primary responsibilities will include managing foreign residency applications and processing Minimum Living Income claims. They will also support employment services through the SEPE agency and assist with traffic administration tasks. The Government Delegation indicated this reinforcement responds to the most urgent incorporation requirements in public service delivery.

Service Improvements

Carlos Prieto, the Government Delegate in Catalunya, characterised the staffing increase as excellent news for strengthening public services. He predicted it would enable more agile, effective administration that better serves citizens. Prieto specifically noted the impact would be most noticeable in offices handling daily procedures for thousands of residents. The initiative forms part of the national government’s broader commitment to enhancing public services throughout Spain.

Implementation will begin immediately across the four provinces, with priority given to offices experiencing the longest processing delays. The additional staff are expected to reduce waiting times for essential procedures including residency permits and social benefit applications. Meanwhile, training programmes will ensure all new administrators understand regional specificities alongside national protocols.
