Catalonia has delayed its cattle vaccination programme until Thursday because of transport problems. The Generalitat’s agriculture department confirmed a third case of Lumpy Skin Disease on Wednesday.

Officials said vaccines were already in transit from France. However, a logistics issue stopped the delivery. They couldn’t say exactly when the vaccines will arrive on Thursday.
Meanwhile, two vaccination teams will work simultaneously once supplies arrive. The first team will cover farms within 20 kilometres of infection sites. The second will handle the remaining farms up to 50 kilometres away.
Over 90,000 cattle across 700 farms need vaccination. This includes both dairy and meat production animals. All farms lie within the 50-kilometre radius of two infected farms in Alt Empordà, Girona.
Agriculture minister Òscar Ordeig spoke to reporters at midday. “Everyone will work day and night,” he said. The department has all staff ready to vaccinate as quickly as possible.
The Central Veterinary Laboratory in Algete, Madrid, confirmed the third case on Wednesday. Generalitat officials have visited the affected farm to inform farmers and offer support.
Lumpy Skin Disease spreads easily between cattle. It reduces their productivity significantly. However, it poses no danger to humans through contact or consuming products. Buffalo are the only other animals at risk.
