Sagrada Família’s Jesus Tower cross is being meticulously crafted by master artisans from the Vallès Oriental region.
These specialists, including ceramicists and glassworkers with over a century of expertise, are finalising details for what will become the most emblematic feature of the world’s tallest basilica.

Their work ensures the cross will shine both inside and out, while also functioning as a viewing platform.
Sagrada Família’s Jesus Tower Cross Blends Tradition and Innovation
Local companies have played a crucial role in shaping this crowning element. Consequently, their generational knowledge is now being applied to Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece. One such firm is Ceràmica Cumella, a family business now in its fifth generation of creating ceramic elements. Their journey began in 1880 when Josep Regàs settled in Granollers, initially making pots and pans.
Subsequently, his son Antoni Comella transformed the business, shifting from earthenware to high-temperature ceramics for creative and architectural work. Today, father and son primarily work on commission, often restoring major Gaudí works like Park Güell or Casa Batlló. “The day-to-day doesn’t let you see what it really is,” explains Guillem Cumella. “But when we take pieces and go to meetings at the Sagrada Família and see the people there and what it moves, you stop for a moment and say… you feel content and proud to be crowning the tallest religious building in the world.”
Furthermore, the project has united various traditional crafts. The nearly century-old Granollers firm Cricursa, a specialist in curved glass, has also joined the effort. This company has worked with the Sagrada Família practically since its foundation, handling all the glass products for the tower. They have already created the enclosures for the towers and interior railings.
Moreover, they recently fabricated the glass for the star on the Virgin Mary tower. However, as their CEO Ferran Figuerola states, crafting the cross for the Jesus Tower represents their largest undertaking yet. “We have developed a skill we didn’t have and that we can offer to other projects in different applications,” he concludes, highlighting the project’s innovative legacy. This collaboration, reported by Tot Barcelona, showcases how historic craftsmanship is vital to completing Barcelona’s most iconic modern landmark.
