A witness has described the “terrifying” behaviour of the man accused of killing a youth during a chemsex session in Vallgorguina, occurring just two days before the fatal incident. The testimony emerged during Tuesday’s proceedings at Barcelona’s Audiencia court, where the witness appeared via videoconference behind closed doors due to persecution of homosexuality in his home country. Judicial sources told Europa Press the witness met the accused on February 14, 2023 near London for a chemsex session involving drugs and sex. The situation deteriorated when the defendant allegedly became paranoid after hearing hallway noises, growing aggressive and making the witness fear for his safety.

Troubling Messages

Mossos d’Esquadra discovered concerning messages while examining the accused’s telephone. The witness had written the following day, expressing fear about potential violence. “I was really worried and waiting for you not to grab a knife or anything to attack me while you said you were protecting yourself from me,” read one message. Additional exchanges continued until the accused departed for Barcelona Airport on February 16. The witness described the behaviour as “terrifying” and expressed disappointment, hoping the accused would stop using drugs. This case follows other Barcelona police investigations involving digital evidence.

Medical Assessments

Both the emergency doctor who treated the accused after the crime and a psychiatrist have confirmed their original evaluations. The psychiatrist specifically ruled out any psychotic episode or psychiatric pathology. However, the defendant maintains he attacked the victim because he believed people were watching and wanted to join the sexual encounter without consent. The prosecution seeks 19 years for murder with treachery, acknowledging drug use as a mitigating factor. Meanwhile, the private prosecution requests an additional year, rejecting any modified criminal responsibility.

The trial continues with additional witness testimonies expected this week. Legal experts anticipate closing arguments could begin by month’s end, potentially concluding one of Barcelona’s most closely watched criminal cases this year.
