Experience the vibrant celebrations for Chinese New Year in Barcelona this February. The city’s streets will burst with colour, music, and tradition in the Eixample district. While the official Lunar New Year begins later, the civic festivities occur over the weekend of Saturday, 7 February and Sunday, 8 February 2026.
According to the traditional lunar calendar, this year marks 4724, designated as the Year of the Fire Horse. Therefore, Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with local cultural organisations, has announced a comprehensive programme of free activities suitable for all ages.

Chinese New Year in Barcelona: The Grand Parade
The centrepiece of the weekend is the traditional parade, which fills the streets with dragons, lions, and dancers. The festivities kick off with the ceremonial striking of the Gong.
Scheduled for Saturday, 7 February, the parade begins at 11:00 am. The procession starts at the Parc de l’Estació del Nord, winding through the Eixample neighbourhood before concluding at the iconic Arc de Triomf. Meanwhile, spectators can expect a lively display of costumes and performances organised by the Associació Grupo Artistas Huaxing (China Star).
Chinese New Year in Barcelona: Cultural Fair and Gastronomy
Following the parade, the celebration continues at the Passeig de Lluís Companys and the Arc de Triomf, which will host a cultural and gastronomic fair. This is an excellent opportunity for locals and visitors to sample traditional Chinese cuisine and engage with cultural workshops.
The fair will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Chinese New Year in Barcelona: Schedule of Performances
In addition to the stalls and food vendors, a stage at the Arc de Triomf will host a series of shows featuring music, dance, and martial arts. These performances are organised by Casa Àsia and the Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona.
- Saturday, 7 February: Shows run from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
- Sunday, 8 February: Shows run from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
All events throughout the weekend are free to attend, offering a fantastic way for the community to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse. In addition, the official event program coincides with Barcelona’s upcoming ‘super long weekend’ in February 2026, promising even more festivities.
