Clot metro station’s two new L1 lifts are finally operational after 22 months of construction. The Generalitat’s Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition department announced the completion Wednesday.

The lifts connect the lobby with L1 platforms. Construction began in January 2024 as part of major accessibility improvements at this busy interchange. However, more work remains to fully connect all platforms.
Two additional lifts are still pending. These will link L1 platforms with L2 platforms. Therefore, disruption to public space will continue for some time. The remaining construction aims to complete full accessibility across the entire interchange.
Clot serves as one of Barcelona’s busiest interchanges. It connects metro lines L1 and L2 with Rodalies commuter trains. Consequently, thousands of passengers use the station daily.
The few remaining non-accessible metro stations require complex and expensive interventions. Indeed, Clot’s 22-month construction timeline demonstrates these challenges. The station’s layout and heavy passenger traffic made the work particularly difficult.
The accessibility improvements especially benefit people with reduced mobility. Moreover, parents with pushchairs and travellers with luggage will find the station much easier to navigate. The lifts eliminate the need to use stairs between platforms.
