Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni inaugurated the Fundació Puigvert's Patient Festival on Saturday, 20th April, at the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau. The event celebrated the foundation's 65th anniversary and its achievement of 3,000 kidney transplants since 1980.
Mayor Collboni signed the Foundation's Book of Honour before the day's activities began, joined by Helena Ris, President of the Fundació Puigvert Board of Trustees. The festival aimed to raise public awareness of renal, urological, sexual, and reproductive health, the four clinical areas of the foundation.
Community Engagement and Health Awareness
Throughout the morning, attendees participated in various family activities. These included games, storytelling sessions, human tower demonstrations, and raffles. Patients shared their personal experiences in 'Stories That Matter', guided by journalists Ramon Pellicer and Aurora Masip.
Informative talks covered topics such as lithiasis, prostate problems, and suitable dietary habits for kidney care. Other sessions addressed sexually transmitted infections, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, fertility, and pelvic floor health. These discussions provided valuable health education to the public.
A Legacy of Transplant Success
The Fundació Puigvert, a leading medical centre in Barcelona, has performed 3,000 kidney transplants since 1980. This milestone highlights its long-standing commitment to patient care and medical advancement in the city. The Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, a UNESCO World Heritage site, provided a historic backdrop for the community event.
The festival allowed both adults and children to learn and share experiences with medical professionals and other patients. Events like this help foster a supportive community for individuals managing complex health conditions in Barcelona.
