Collserola firefighters have successfully controlled a challenging wildfire that broke out in the mountainous terrain near Montcada i Reixac on Friday afternoon.

The blaze, which required an extensive emergency response, consumed approximately two hectares of shrubland and pine trees before being contained by evening.
The Generalitat Fire Service received the initial alert at 4:21pm and declared the fire under control by 6:45pm. However, the difficult access to the Turó de Montcada area presented significant challenges for ground crews throughout the operation. Eight units remained on site even after the main flames were extinguished to ensure complete containment.
Collserola Firefighters Face Access Challenges
According to official reports from El Periódico, the fire location proved particularly problematic for emergency services. The terrain’s steep slopes and dense vegetation complicated direct access, forcing crews to establish water lines from safer positions. Furthermore, the proximity to a quarry added additional safety considerations for the responding teams.
The emergency deployment involved ten firefighting units, including seven ground teams supported by aerial resources. Two surveillance aircraft monitored the fire’s progression while a water-dropping helicopter provided crucial support from above. This coordinated approach proved essential given the challenging landscape that Collserola firefighters had to navigate throughout the operation.
Social media updates from the fire service detailed the tactical response as it unfolded. The left flank of the fire reportedly decreased in intensity first, allowing crews to focus on manual extinguishing efforts and targeted water drops. Consequently, resources were redirected to contain the more active right flank, where aerial units played a critical role in preventing further spread.
The smoke plume from the blaze became visible from higher neighbourhoods across Barcelona, drawing public attention to the emergency. Fortunately, the quick response and strategic deployment prevented any threat to residential areas.
