Younger visitors, aged 3 to 6, can enjoy the new Planetarium film, “Kiru and the Mystery of the Lost Moon“. This film follows Kiru and Candeleta the firefly as they search for the missing Moon, exploring space and interacting with planets and stars. It explains lunar phases and helps children manage fear of the dark. Museum educators then lead a participatory activity about the Sun-Moon relationship.

Interactive Science Shows and Workshops

For those aged 8 and above, “ThermoShow” provides an interactive scientific spectacle. Audiences use a thermal camera to observe temperature changes during physical and chemical processes. This show features experiments with materials possessing unusual properties.

Children aged 9 and older can participate in “The Code of Life” workshop. This activity introduces genetics through practical experiments, including observing cell division, gene expression, and DNA extraction. It also demonstrates how scientific teams analyse chromosomes and why this information is crucial for understanding health and detecting diseases.

Additional Exhibitions and Attractions

The programme also features additional Planetarium projections, such as “Polaris”, “Postcards from Other Worlds”, “Black Holes”, and “Dinosaurios: A Survival Story”. Visitors can also take guided tours of the woolly mammoth skeleton, which arrived last autumn. Furthermore, the museum hosts the temporary exhibition “Extraterrestrials: Is There Life Beyond Earth?”. Regular museum spaces like Clik, the Flooded Forest, and the “Rescue on the Moon” escape room remain open.

The “La Caixa” Foundation, which operates CosmoCaixa, stated that the special programme aims to provide families with a playful way to learn science during the holiday period. This diverse offering ensures that residents and tourists visiting Barcelona have educational and entertaining options throughout Easter.
