Police in Barcelona have arrested a 19-year-old motorist following a fatal collision in the municipality of Subirats on Sunday morning. Consequently, this tragic incident resulted in the death of a cyclist. Moreover, it marks the third traffic fatality on Catalan roads in 2026.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. For instance, four patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra, three crews from the Generalitat Firefighters, and several units from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) attended. Despite the efforts of first responders, the cyclist could not be saved.

Following standard procedure for serious road incidents, traffic officers administered alcohol and drug tests to the driver involved. The 19-year-old returned a positive result and was subsequently arrested at the scene. The incident is reminiscent of another recent fatal accident involving a vulnerable road user in the region.
