Barcelona has long held a special place in world literature, inspiring great writers from Gabriel García Márquez to Mario Vargas Llosa. Now, bestselling American author Dan Brown has joined the chorus, declaring his deep affection for the Catalan capital.

In an interview with broadcaster 3Cat from his home in Rye Beach, New Hampshire, the author of global hits including The Da Vinci CodeInferno and Angels and Demons revealed that Barcelona is the only city where he could imagine living beyond the United States. ‘I could not live in any other city in the world except one: Barcelona. And it has to do with the architecture, the history and, of course, the people,’ he said.

Brown’s admiration is not new. Barcelona was the setting for his 2017 novel Origin, which saw protagonist Robert Langdon explore sites such as Casa Milà, the Sagrada Família and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre.

His latest remarks reinforce the city’s reputation as a source of inspiration for contemporary writers as well as a magnet for literary tourism. For many, Brown’s endorsement underscores Barcelona’s enduring blend of cultural richness, striking landmarks and human warmth.
