Daniel Sirera, leader of the Popular Party in Barcelona’s city council, has denounced being robbed while recording a video about insecurity in the city.

The incident took place near the Town Hall, as Sirera was speaking to camera about rising crime. He explained that he had briefly left his coat on the mirror of a parked car, only to find it stolen moments later. Inside were the keys to his motorcycle.

Images later shared on his Instagram account show a woman walking away, allegedly with the garment in hand. ‘Two robberies in just two months! In Collboni’s Barcelona, stealing comes free of charge,’ Sirera declared, directly criticising the mayor Jaume Collboni, Catalan president Salvador Illa, and Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sánchez for what he called a failure to protect citizens and visitors.
The incident follows an earlier robbery in August, when Sirera’s motorcycle was forced open and items including glasses and keys were taken. He has repeatedly demanded tougher measures against repeat offenders, including the reactivation of a stalled law on multi-recidivism.
