According to a report by El Periódico, the Catalan government is now formally studying the option of using Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) to build the line.

FGC Emerges as the Preferred Solution Sources confirm the government is evaluating an FGC-led project. The plan involves a new branch from the existing Llobregat-Anoia line at Molí Nou-Ciutat Cooperativa, descending to serve Castelldefels.

Infraestructures Ferroviàries de Catalunya (Ifercat) and FGC will collaborate on a foundational study, funded by around €400,000. The tender is expected in the coming weeks, with work starting in autumn 2026. However, the mayors largely agree that FGC is the most realistic option.

This new push follows a 2022 study commissioned by the national government, which explored alternatives but whose conclusions were never published. The current initiative, led by the Generalitat, appears to have more momentum.
