The event, organised by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), aimed to bridge the gap between academic training and the real-world talent demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, often termed Industry 4.0. Titled ‘Tech4Impact: Universities that transform’, the conference showcased the hub’s dynamic technological ecosystem and provided a platform for discussing the implementation of artificial intelligence and the specific skills sought by employers.
A Hands-On Look at Future Technologies
Throughout the day, students from institutions including ESADE, UPC School, and ELISAVA Facultat de Disseny i Enginyeria enjoyed an immersive experience. They toured the DFactory Barcelona facilities and visited several of the resident companies that are developing pioneering projects in robotics, 3D printing, data analytics, cybersecurity, and generative AI.
Significantly, the event included the ‘Match Empresas & Talent’ session, a dedicated matchmaking activity. This initiative aimed to create tangible opportunities by facilitating discussions around internships, collaborative projects, and future employment for young talent within the DFactory ecosystem.
In addition, the programme included a series of round-table discussions. These panels featured representatives from DFactory-based companies, university faculty, and professional engineering associations such as Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya and Telécos.Cat, fostering a direct dialogue between the next generation of professionals and current industry leaders.
CZFB’s Commitment to Talent and Innovation
Pere Navarro, the special delegate of the State in the CZFB, highlighted the strategic importance of the event, framing it as a crucial step in strengthening the city’s innovation pipeline. He stated that the initiative underscores a core commitment of the organisation.
“With Tech4Impact, we are taking ‘a step further’ in connecting the academic and business sectors,” Mr Navarro explained. “Our commitment to talent is firm, because without prepared people, no digital transformation is possible.”
The conference is a key part of CZFB and DFactory Barcelona’s strategic focus on talent, which it considers a priority alongside technological innovation and sustainability. According to a report by 20 Minutos, the event reinforces the CZFB’s role as a driving force in the knowledge economy and as a vital bridge between universities and Barcelona’s most innovative business sectors. This first edition also featured a collaboration with Mercabarna, the city’s major wholesale food market, indicating the wide-reaching impact of technological advancement across diverse industries.
Cultivating Barcelona’s Future Talent
By directly exposing students to the cutting-edge work within its walls, DFactory Barcelona cultivates the human capital needed to keep Barcelona at the forefront of global technological progress.
