The launch ceremony was attended by senior figures including Lluïsa Moret, mayor of Sant Boi de Llobregat and president of the Barcelona Provincial Council; Catalonia’s economy minister, Alícia Romero; and the Spanish government’s delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto. Romero highlighted the need for strong logistics to support the region’s economy, insisting that future growth depends on well-integrated rail, road, air and sea connections, combined with robust public–private partnerships.

The new DHL Express hub spans 29,000 square metres, with a 10,000-square-metre warehouse and 3,500 square metres of office space. Designed with sustainability in mind, the facility includes carbon-neutral features such as photovoltaic self-consumption systems and electrification measures aimed at reducing emissions. The company describes the hub as a step towards ‘green logistics’, setting a benchmark for future projects.

Barcelona’s growing role in international logistics has been reinforced by this investment, which strengthens the region’s connectivity and positions it as a vital European distribution point.
