Barcelona port worker Carlos L. has testified in a dramatic court case about a sophisticated drug planting operation that targeted him nine years ago. The dockworker told Barcelona’s fifth section court that fellow port worker David Caballero, known as ‘Bubito’, masterminded the scheme to plant one kilogram of cocaine, hashish and a semi-automatic pistol in his car back in June 2016.

Barcelona Port Worker Details Alleged Vendetta
Carlos L. described the incident as “a vendetta” stemming from long-standing tensions within the port community. Furthermore, he explained that their relationship had initially been cordial, with the men sharing coffee and maintaining professional courtesy. However, everything changed when an anonymous website called ‘Los Sapos del Puerto’ appeared, naming dockworkers allegedly involved in drug trafficking who also served as police informants.
Caballero, who was murdered last November while having breakfast at a Montgat bar terrace, apparently blamed Carlos L. for creating the website. Consequently, the situation escalated from professional rivalry to physical violence. The testifying port worker recounted multiple incidents including threats with iron bars in 2013 and a stabbing that left him with a knife wound in his back.
The elaborate framing attempt unfolded on June 15, 2016, when Carlos L. parked his vehicle at the David Lloyd gym on Diagonal Avenue. Upon returning from his workout, Mossos d’Esquadra officers intercepted him, searched his car and discovered the concealed weapons and narcotics. Despite his immediate protests of innocence, he spent three days in detention before being released.
Meanwhile, the subsequent investigation revealed a complex web of connections involving police corruption and criminal networks. Two Mossos officers from Sant Martí station now face charges for allegedly accessing Carlos L.’s police file three months before the incident and providing contact information that facilitated the setup.
